Heidi
is a 9 month old reddish buff girl. She spayed, current on shots, vet checked and
on heartworm preventative.
She was surrendered directly to Rescue by a family whose children would not take
responsibility for her care - and then tried to take rawhide out of her mouth. (We
have seen more misbehavior due to Rawhide than any other single factor. Dogs think
it is food - people think it is a toy. When there is a confrontation, the dog wins
the battle but sometimes loses its home or its life.)
Heidi had never had a haircut before she came into Rescue. She was not particularly
fond of having clippers on her face, but cookies and praise helped ease the "operation".
Her coat is straight and easy to keep combed out - but she will need periodic grooming.
Heidi hasn't
had too much training. She didn't have any idea of what her limits actually were
because it appears as though nobody had ever corrected her. Fortunately, Heidi seems
to be highly trainable. A person with cocker experience could have a lot of fun working
with a dog this highly motivated by food.
She is housebroken and crate trained. She's learning leash manners and the proper
way to greet people.
Because of her past experience with children, we would rather place her with teens
or adults. And she would probably be happiest in a single dog household but didn't
seem particularly bothered by the cat.
