Delta
is a faintly marked black and tan pup, born August 13. She is vet checked, has her
puppy shots and is spayed.
She was surrendered to Rescue at 3 months by a heartbroken individual who realized
that Delta didn't have the temperament to deal with a pre-schooler.
Grooming Delta is somewhat of a challenge. If you attempt to physically restrain
her, it is a fight from start to finish. But she will rest her head on your hand
and let you clip her face with minimal protests. She stands still to be combed on
the grooming table and to get her toenails cut, but she won't lie on your lap to
be groomed. Putting her in a situation where someone can give her frequent haircuts
at home would be ideal.
Although Delta had been taken away from her littermates at too young an age, the
damage appears to be minimal. The other dogs in her foster home have taught her doggy
manners.. She fully enjoys running and playing with them - and respects them when
they say they've had enough. Likewise, the cats have educated her about what they
will and will not tolerate.
When she came into foster care, Delta thought it was acceptable to bark at strangers.
After attending weekly sessions of Puppy Playgroup - which includes a "pass
the puppy" exercise - she has learned that people aren't going to hurt her and
that if she plays her cards right, they may even give her cookies when she earns
them by obeying basic commands. She now runs up to strangers to be petted.
Delta is one of those high energy dogs who is happiest when she has a job to do.
She is extremely intelligent and must go to an adult home with considerable dog training
experience. She responds well to consistent, fair, no nonsense treatment. She is
highly food motivated and can be induced to do almost anything. In fact she is an
exceptionally quick study and would be a great choice for someone who wanted to work
her in obedience or agility - if they utilize positive training methods.
Although she still has a puppy's curiosity, she's isn't especially destructive when
given run of the house. She is housebroken and clean in her crate.
Delta loves human company - shadowing her favorite people. But she doesn't like to
be cuddled.
