Austin
is an approximately 2 year old buff girl. She is spayed and being brought up to date
on shots and is vet checked and heartworm tested and will be put on preventative.
She had been in a puppymill which was about to be closed down by authorities.
Austin has an easy care coat. She will need regular combing and an occasional clipping
on her face. She was very cooperative for getting cleaned up.
Although living
in a puppymill didn't give Austin a lot of life experiences, she is a quick study.
She's learned that going through doors isn't anything to worry about and that she
really can navigate steps - both up and down. (A trail of treats with a jackpot at
the top/bottom was an explanation she could fully understand!)
Austin craves affection She will approach people cautiously and do everything in
her power to make body contact with them. She'll stand there "bug eyed"
and not moving - until the petting stops - at which point she'll nudge the person
to continue.
She has to check out every leaf, stick and piece of fuzz on the ground. She is very
interested in toys, but she doesn't seem to know how to play with them.
Austin is
pottying outside on a regular basis. She is keeping her crate clean and is probably
going to housebreak very quickly.
Cats are no problem. She sniffs them, they sniff her, and everybody goes about his/her
business. Whether she should live with another dog would depend upon how much experience
the new family had with a multi-dog household. It is obvious that she is fully aware
of pack dynamics and body language. She is comfortable in the company of other dogs.
However, she also knows that if two dogs want one prized possession, she is going
to have to assert herself.
Because she doesn't have a lot of confidence, an adult home would be best for Austin.
