Recent bird sightings:

15 January, 2008 - The PACIFIC LOON at the SCVWD Pond was last reported on Jan. 13th by Jim Thomas. On Jan. 14th Janna Pauser had a SLATE-COLORED JUNCO in her yard.

11 January, 2008 - As of today the PACIFIC LOON was still at the SCVWD Pond (reported by Dave Quady). Janna Pauser reports that on Jan. 10th a SLATE-COLORED JUNCO was found at Guadalupe Oak Grove Park. A PEREGRINE FALCON was on a transmission tower there the same day, and the flock of CHIPPING SPARROWS and 1-2 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS continue to be seen at nearby Jeffrey Fontana Park.

6 January, 2008 - The PACIFIC LOON continues at the Santa Clara Valley Water District Pond. Jack Cole noted that it can be difficult to find because it dives frequently and spends a lot of time underwater. An OSPREY was also in the area, and Mike Rogers reports that the male BARROW'S x COMMON GOLDENEYE was again seen there today. An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was in coyotebrush along the adjacent river channel.

Mike Rogers also reports that today a MERLIN, a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, and as many as 10 CHIPPING SPARROWS were still at Jeffrey Fontana Park; 5 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, a PEREGRINE FALCON, and the adult BALD EAGLE were at Calero Reservoir; and a pair of HOODED MERGANSERS were in the flooded area west of Santa Teresa opposite Tulare Hill.

5 January, 2008 - A PACIFIC LOON continues to be seen at the Santa Clara Valley Water District Pond. Today it was observed by Bob Reiling and Garrett Lau, who also noted the presence of a PEREGRINE FALCON. Ann Verdi had an immature BALD EAGLE and OSPREY there on Jan. 2nd.

The continuing WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and flock of CHIPPING SPARROWS at Jeffrey Fontana Park  were most recently reported by Janna Pauser on Jan 1st and by Bob Reiling on the 2nd. Ann Verdi reports the continued presence of a RED-THROATED LOON, a SURF SCOTER, an adult BALD EAGLE, and 2 AMERICAN AVOCETS at Calero Reservoir on Jan 1st. The BALD EAGLE was still there as of today (Ann Verdi).  Both Ann Verdi and Mike Mammoser also had a GOLDEN EAGLE at Calero Reservoir on the 1st.
