Bicycling

I began bicycling regularly when an old friend of mine, returning after some years out of state,  introduced it to me as his current hobby.  Additionally, he introduced me to organized bike rides.  My first was the Chilly Hilly 1994.  I continue to participate in the local organized bike rides.

He is no longer bicycling and his preferred means of exercise is jogging now.  Things change.

I ride my bike to train for the STP and as a way to relax.   It is great to get out in the fresh air and see the world from a different perspective.

During my years as a cyclist I have found that a certain animosity exists between motorists and cyclists.  Primarily because a lot of cyclists run stop signs and do not obey the traffic laws.  Large groups of cyclists also impede motor vehicle traffic.

Since I feel that running stop signs is a major sore point with motorists I always try to make an effort to slow down or stop at stop signs (depending on traffic) and look all ways before proceeding.  This way the motorists can see I am making an attempt to obey the same laws they are subject to.

After all, I can't win against a car that decides to hit me...

Too bad we don't have the same bicycle laws they have in some countries in Europe.  In a car-bike accident the car is always at fault.
