Mark's Rare Comics Comic Book Database is a Microsoft Access 2000 (you probably have Microsoft Access on your computer as part of Microsoft Office 2000) program that offers greater flexibility than most comic book databases available and is provided free to comic book collectors that want a complete and easy method of maintaining and accessing information about their collection. In addition to the standard comic book parameters you may input as many characters and cover pictures as you desire for each comic book. You can print complete comic book reports and lists of comic books, characters and cover pictures.
No installation is necessary. Run ComicsDB.exe to uncompress files to My Documents. Start ComicsDB by clicking on the Windows 95/98/2000 Start button and on "Open Office Documents" in the Start menu. Double click on ComicsDB. Microsoft Access will open with the ComicsDB menu displayed.
Alternatively, you can run Microsoft Access and open ComicsDB.mdb.
For convenience place a shortcut on your desktop by opening Windows Explorer, right click on ComicsDB.mdb and drag to desktop. Click on "Create Shortcut(s) Here". The default desktop icon is the Microsoft Access icon. To use rarecomics.ico right click on the desktop icon and "Properties" in the descending menu. Click on the Shortcut Tab. Click on the Change Icon button. Browse to find rarecomics.ico, e.g., C:\My Documents\rarecomics.ico. Click OK.
You can enter data for each field as shown in the above picture of the data entry screen of Mark's Rare Comics Comic Book Database. This data includes each comic book title in your collection, the edition, the publication or cover date, the classification (Golden Age, etc. or any descriptions you want), condition (standard grades or any scheme you want to describe the condition of your comics), number of pages, the publisher, the artist, the writer, sell price, market price, the price you paid, cover price, the date you acquired the comic book, sell date, any comments or notes you want to add, cover or other pictures (you can include as many alternate covers as you like), as many character names as you like.
You can display and/or print your comic book data in a variety of forms and content. Most reports can be filtered to display just the comics that you want, e.g., filter by "Sad Sack Army Life Parade" to display only those titles. You can also sort or order the reports by many parameters such as acquisition date in ascending or descending order. You can also make a simple list of your comics and a list of characters. Reports can also be displayed and/or printed with comic book pictures.
