Dance Around the World, to be held on December 1, 2007, teaches girl scouts about music and dance from Africa, India and Ireland with local professionals including African dancer, L.D. Burris, and musician and composer, Ken Ray Wilemon.

Raleigh Dance Theatre Announces Its Spring 2008 Season

(RALEIGH)-Mary LeGere, Artistic Director, of Raleigh Dance Theatre (RDT) announces the spring 2008 season. Raleigh Dance Theatre will present its annual Spring Repertoire performances on Saturday, March 29, at 2:00pm and 7:00pm, in Fletcher Opera Theatre at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. General admission tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Group rates are also available.
This year's Spring Repertoire features Swan Lake Act II, as well as the premiere of two new works; the first a classical ballet set to Brahms', Serenade #1 in D, by Mary LeGere and a new modern work set by Raleigh School of Ballet faculty member and director of Saint Mary's Orchesis Dance Theatre, Lisa Yount. Mary LeGere will also restage Bournonville Divertissements (2006), choreographed in the style of the legendary Danish choreographer Auguste Bournonville.
In conjunction with their Spring Repertoire performances, RDT will present a community outreach program at Cameron Village Regional Library on March 15, 2008. The Cameron Village event is a free, open to the public, lecture-demonstration featuring movement and storytelling excerpts from Swan Lake.
RDT will also present a new outreach program this spring to give teenagers involved with the NC Coastal Pines Girl Scout Council the opportunity to earn their Invitation to Dance Interest Project Award. Teens will learn about what goes into a ballet performance from backstage to front of house. This will be a hands-on experience where they will learn about the choreographic process and the resources and materials that go into a dance performance, and will attend RDT's Spring Repertoire performance with backstage access. Along with basic ballet steps they will learn folk dances from around the world.
Raleigh Dance Theatre was founded in 1984 by Ann Vorus to provide pre-professional performance training, while promoting and fostering the art of dance in the community. It is the only pre-professional company in the Triangle area selected for membership as an honor company in the Southeastern Regional Ballet Association. RDT's training program along with its affiliate school, The Raleigh School of Ballet has a proven record of success, with alumnae who have gone on to professional careers with Carolina Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Washington Ballet II, and New York City Ballet.
