With Monsieur C at the helm of the trusty Toyota, the RailNutterNews team set out on a rain soaked summer day to chase the Essex Steam Train along the rural roads of the Connecticut Valley, along the Connecticut River. Nothing is more pure railfanning fun than a steamer chase. With our county road maps flapping in the wind, we raced from crossing to crossing; our ears ever alert to the distant hoot and thunder of the approaching train. Each time we were in position to photograph another pass of the mighty beast, we were once again thrilled as it lumbered and hissed by belching steam.

LOCO CAB RIDE
Last year, we visited and rode on the Essex Steam train and we were fortunate
to have been able to ride part of the way in the cab of the lurching locomotive.
