Seals sunning on the rocks gave us a rare glimpse of fellow mammals in New Zealand. I never did get over the relative absence of animals, undomesticated anyway, in New Zealand. We'd hoped to see dolphins and, if very lucky, whales as the ship ventured out into the Tasman Sea, but no joy today.
