| DOWN FROM MACKINNON PASS |
|---|
We rested in the Pass Hut eating lunch, drinking hot soup, tea and chocolate courtesy of a Track guide who proceeded us to the pass. All trash is carried out.
200 feet above this point snow fell ... came 9000 miles, left an Upstate New York winter ... to be snowed on :-) Trail conditions here are typical of the route down. Watch your step. It's so large, filling the frame, the distance across the valley to the opposing mountain face is deceptively short. Several time from there we heard the CRACK! and rumble of avalanches as tons of snow and ice slid down the mountain face to the valley floor. One wondered if folks on the other side might catch the same show on this side of the valley.
