| EVENING AT QUINTIN LODGE |
|---|
By evening I could walk upright again and joined the group for happy hour, or, more accurately happy as long as I could stay awake hour. In spite of sleeping in strange surrounding I fell asleep quickly and slept deeply. I even slept through the raucous party the women were rumored to have staged in there rooms down the corridor at Glade House :-)
All three lodges we overnighted were well appointed each offering a laundry room, lounge and dinning area and hot showers. My favorite feature though were the drying rooms. Each was equipped with large fans blowing heated air over racks on which you lay wet clothes. While that was helpful entering them after a wet hike or on a cold morning was a terrific way to end the hike or start the day.
The Milford Track Company was happy to run a tab for us while on the trail. Snacks and meals were generous and included in the price of the trip but there was that good New Zealand wine calling from the cooler. With it cheaper by the bottle we felt obligated to save as much money as we could.
