WEKA

Flightless and ground dwelling and with a vaguely similar body shape ... and the overwhelming desire of us tourists to see one, the Western Weka is often mistaken for a Kiwi. Curious and daylight feeders they are numerous in some areas. They've also suffered from predation by stoats and feral cats and dogs.
