The
National Trust owns approximately 106,000 acres of ground and approximately 132 miles of
coastline in Wales. Thanks to them we are at liberty to walk this countryside and
appreciate its awesome beauty. |

No web page that
talks about North Wales is complete if it does not include something about Snowdon and the
surrounding countryside. Interestingly enough, Dinas
Oleu, which is the first property given to the National Trust is a small hillside
overlooking Barmouth, above St. Johns church.
Snowdon is the tallest mountain in Wales and forms part of
a horseshoe of mountains including Crib Coch (Red Ridge), Crib y Ddysgl, Y Lliwedd. Lakes
abound - Glaslyn, Llyn Llydaw, Llyn Cwellyn, Llyn y Gadair, Llyn Gwynam, Llyn Dinas, Llyn
Padarn, Llyn Peris to name but a few (Llyn, as you may have guessed, is welsh for lake).
Close to Snowdon lie other impressive mountains - Glyder
Fawr, Glyder Fach, Y Gribin and Tryfan with Llyn Ogwen lying at their base and Afon Ogwen
(The river Ogwen) running in the valley below. |
