Barmouth juniors


The Juniors competed in the SCI Mitre Ultimatch Cup staying away from home for the first time over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend. The team produced some fantastic football during the two day tournement winning seven, drawing once and only losing one game. A truly remarkable acheivemnt from all who participated. The Juniors would like to say a huge thank you to Barmouth Communities First who co-funded the trip and paid for the players to compete. A big thank you must also go to the parents who made it a fantastic atmosphere having over forty people supporting the team which was excellent for team building and bonding. Another thank you goes to Daniel Papirnyk, Jimmy Morgan and Craig papirnyk for their excellent coaching throughout the weekend. Well done everyone and we look forward to next year.

Young Drivers Course


10 young people took part in the course held at Barmouth Fire Station in a partnership event devised with the Police, Ambulance, Fire Service, Gwynedd Arrive Alive and Brake a lady who lost her son in an accident on the A55. The course took place on the 7th may and took 3 hours to complete. Mel Vaughan from Gwynedd Highways began the session . He was followed by a presentation from the Ambulance Service.. After this there followed a demonstration of extrication by the Fire Service. The Police contribution came from a Families Liason Officer, traffic officer finishing off with a session from Brake talking about a loss from a mothers prospective,

The students can now go on to a pass plus driving day where they can gain further driving skills in motorway driving and night driving. When completed this will give them a discount on their car insurance. Barmouth emergency services would like to thank Martin and the team from the Communities First for all their help with part funding for this project. Station Officer Steve Morris should be thanked for the effort that he has put into organising these sessions and to all the services that devoted time to preserving life and enhancing the skills of new drivers. The drivers themselves should be congratulated for taking part and showing their mature attitude to the challenge of safe driving.

Packing a packet

The Friends of Ysgol Y Traeth collected £195 by bag packing at the Co-op Store on April 11th. The6y wish to say a big thank you to those who made donations .

RNLI Flag Day

Once again Flag Day is on the horizon. This year it falls on Thursday 6th August. If you could spare an hour as a street collector on that day please contact William Burton on 01341 280704. Last year the numbers were low and it would be good to welcome additional helpers for this worthwhile cause.

Carpeted

Two more hand made carpets have been created to raise funds for charities in the area. Dolgellau Hearing Impairment Luncheon Group is the first and Age Concxern Barmouth is the other. One kit was supplied by John and Daphne Dix and the other by Age Concern Barmouth and made by Mike Triggs. Tickets will be for sale through Age Concern in Barmouth at £1 each. The aim is to raise £365 there will be a raffle with the carpets as first and second prizes.

It a Date

As part of the fund raising strategy for the National Eisteddfod calendars have been produced , each month shows a different watercolour view by Emrys Williams. Supplies are limited but there are some available at £3 each from the Communities First office in Station Road.

Publicity

The AGM of the Barmouth Publicity Association will be held on Thursday, 4th June at 7.00pm in the Arts Room, Dragon Theatre. Since tourism is the major industry of Barmouth and virtually everyone benefits from the money that is generated it is important that as many people as possible take part in the shaping of the marketing of the town. If you have comments to make or suggestions to offer this will be an ideal opportunity to share them with like minded residents and operators.

Rotary Swing

A 1930’s Jazz Swing Night has been organised by the Mawddach Rotary Club and featuring the ever popular JAZZRAG DIXIELAND BAND. Licensed bar available. Advance booking is strongly recommended & jazzy dress requested for the event to be held on Friday May 22 at 7-30pm in the Cabaret room of the Dragon Theatre Tickets cost £11, call 01341 422 205 to reserve.

Film night

Bolt is a canine TV star who believes he really does have super-powers. Accidentally shipped from Hollywood to New York City, he teams up with a reluctant alley-cat and an enthusiastic hamster as he makes his way back across America. See this family film for £3 each in the Dragon Theatre at 7pm on Tuesday 26th May

Line dance evening

Featuring all your favourite line-dance tunes. With a licensed bar for alcoholic or soft drinks and nibbles on the tables. All welcome. Friday May 29th from 7-30pm, entrance £3-50 in the Arts room at the Dragon Theatre.

Photographs - The photograph pages now use a consistent format and I am adding high-quality pictures of Barmouth that I receive from readers to the site as time permits.
