Asset Transfers

Representatives from three Barmouth organisations: Town Council, Communities First and the Bowling Club attended a briefing session in Caernarfon conducted by the Development Trust Association Wales. The session gave in depth information about how communities can gain control of assets and develop them for the benefit of the local area. Highlighted was the need for robust business plans to be developed along with contingency arrangements to mitigate the effects of unexpected set back situations. By returning buildings to local control the community can operate them in ways that suit the users rather than being dictated to be outside agencies. Already plans are advancing for the return of the Theatre and the former Youth Centre to local control plans are being considered for three further projects that would see a substantial amount of the facilities being managed by local groups.
