W.I.

Ann Williams, the Vice President chaired the meeting on March 25th. She began by welcoming the members and inviting them to sing Meirion, accompanied by Blodwen Comerford, on the piano. The Vice President then introduced the speakers for the evening: Ursula Conlon Griffith, who talked about Fair Trade fashion and Denise Bott talked about Fair Trade coffee, this was accompanied by a film show. They were thanked, warmly, by Val vine. The meeting then proceeded with the reading of the minutes. A clip board weas sent round for names to be put forward for the Bingo at Llanelltyd on 9th April the Darts Match to be played at Fronolau on April 16th,and the Spring Ramble on Saturday 18th April.. The Tea Hostesses : Liz Roberts, Geinor Lavender and Doreen Gill were thanked by the Vice President. Blodwen Comewrford won the raffle and Geinor Lsavender won the flowers. The next meeting will be held on April 22nd.

Be safe on the internet

Internet safety is a concern for many, especially those with young children. Many parents feel that they are not equipped with the skills to ensure that their children are surfing safely on the net. Barmouth Childcare Partnership with funding from Communities First are offering a one off session at the Dragon Theatre on Wednesday 29th April from 9-30 till 12-30. the session will be free but places are limited. If you want to take part please contact Denise Bott at Communities First on 01341 280979 quickly.

Be Heard

The recent item asking for expressions of interest in starting a group for hearing impaired people and those interested in the topic has resulted in a good response. Amanda Harris is in the process of arranging the first meeting which will star soon after Easter. If you would like to be added to the mailing list please contact the Communities First office in Station Road, you can leave your contact details and they will be passed on. The date and location will be published when finalised.

Easter Play scheme

If childcare is an issue for you over the Easter holidays for example if you need to work and have no assistance you may be interested in the Easter Play scheme being funded by Communities First and operated by the Pavilion Leisure Centre. The programme will run from the 6th to the 9th April inclusive and from the 14th to the 17th inclusive. A maximum of 45 children can take part, some places have already been reserved so it is important to contact the Pavilion Leisure Centre this week to ensure a place. Children need to be registered before the start you can get more details from Jo oe Daryl on 01341 280111.

B.R.A.

Barmouth Residents Association hold their meetings on the first Monday of each month at 7pm in the Min y Mor hotel on the Promenade. If you have issues about the town that you wish to discuss or inform them about you will be made most welcome. Various organisation also take part and the meetings are a good way to sign post issues to the appropriate body.

Healthy living Family fun Day

This years event will be held on the field of Ysgol y Traeth on Saturday June 27th from mid day till about 4pm. The organisers would like to include as wide a range of alternative and complementary therapy practitioners as are available in the area. This could cover anything from Acupuncture or Alexander Technique through to Tai Chi and Yoga. If you would like to take part and showcase what you do and perhaps gain new clients in the process or just inform people of what can be done in conjunction with conventional medicine please contact Martin or Denise on 01341 280979 or call in at the Communities First office in Station road. Also if you use a therapist please let them know of this request.

Huw Warren Trio at the Dragon

Huw Warren, highly regarded and award winning jazz musician will be putting the Barmouth Music Workshop through their improvisation paces during the daytime but come the evening the lights will dim, the bar will open and the concert will begin! Settle in with a glass of wine for an exhilarating evening of jazz with the Huw Warren Trio.Saturday April 4th at 7-30pm. Tickets from the Communities First office, Station Road (01341 280 979) or on the door. £6.50/£5 Supported by the Arts Council of Wales.
