Boxes for troops

Many will remember the scheme that ran at Christmas to send shoe box size parcels weighing no more than 2kg to serving troops. The MoD at the time halted the scheme because the logistics of distribution caused problems. Now however there is an opportunity for local people to send parcels to front line troops at Camp Bastion. Organised by Layla Meadows and Rita Johnstone, the parcels will be sent to two local men who will be able to pass them on to comrades. There are clear rules about what can and cannot be sent: any canned goods must have ring pull opening. The troops have very limited facilities so ringpull cans of fruit, fish etc. pepperami type snacks, biscuits, pot noodles cakes, nuts, dried fruit, cartons of juice, cordial, books and magazines. Chocolate is not practical, it melts and alcohol is not allowed. Communities First have agreed to be the receiving point for boxes. Layla and Rita will send them so that those who have no one to contact for supplies will be helped. All will be greatly appreciated.
