It is being restricted to 8 people so that you will get plenty of attention and chances to try things out. Printers and scanners and other equipment will also be explained. This valuable course is offered free to those who will make use of the opportunity. Contact Martin or Denise at the Communities First office in Station Road or call us on 01341 280979.

Weigh2go

Last years sessions of Weigh2to were so popular that extra sessions had to be laid on. This year another 15 people have the chance to join for free and get support from like-minded people who want to get into shape gently. Paula will be on hand to assess weight, body mass and general fitness, to offer suggestions for improving flexibility and motivation along with helpful ideas on nutrition. If you want to make use of the gym equipment staff will be on hand to guide you through relaxing and energising programmes. If you are not exercising regularly and are wary of the gym this is designed for you, no pressure, no pain but plenty of encouragement and support. Keep Dancing

Tea dancers at the Dragon Theatre have received a heart-warming Christmas card from someone who up until last year used to come over occasionally on the train from Machynlleth, for the Wednesday afternoon dances. It reads ‘To all the dancers, with love from Jessie. My knees are too rickety for dancing now but I am not grumbling because they still don’t hurt. I can still lie on the floor and let my legs dance in the air. What more could I want at 94 and a half?’

The colour purple?

Barmouth U3A are planning a new “Beginners painting course” aiming to start in March. Interest has already been shown but organisers need to know how many more wish to join to ensure they provide adequate tuition facilities. It is expected that the course will run on alternate Tuesdays , probably being held in the Min Y Mor hotel Barmouth. To register interest or to get more details please speak to Sylvia on 01341 247450.

Lend a hand?

If you have been thinking about getting involved in a local group but can’t decide which one or how to go about it you are invited to drop in for a coffee and chat with Ann Fleming of the Gwynedd Volunteer Bureau at the Communities First office in Station road on Tuesday 27th January between 10am and 12noon. She may have suggestions that you have not considered and may suggest projects that match your skills or that will help you develop new skills. To be able to show volunteer work on a C.V. is something that many employers look out for so there is a double benefit, for you and the community. If you cannot make it during these hours you can phone Ann on 01341 422575, she will be pleased to hear from you.
