Dragon Theatre and Community Centre

Chaired by Melville Penzer the monthly management meting was held in the Arts room on Monday 16th February. There were a number of apologies as it was schools half term, including the Manager Allison Williams, who sent in her written report. The report indicated a number of successful events and drafted out a busy period ahead, especially in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Dragon Theatre and its extension as a community Centre. Progress is being made in taking over the building from Gwynedd council and also in turning the Management and Trustees into a Community Interest Company. Treasurer Geraldine Vincent gave a comprehensive financial report and explained the various ways she is investigating to cut costs

Literary and Debating Society

On February 19th the Society held their annual debate. The subject was “Mental Health –does care in the Community work?” The speakers were Mr. Peter Leyden who spoke for, and Dr. John Watkin Jones who spoke against the motion. The panel was chaired by Mrs Jean Wilde. The audience was most attentive and everyone had an opinion. The “antis” won by a majority of one. The subject for the February 26th meeting will be Herbal Medicine presented by Mr. Lee Calderwood.

Community Plan

On Thursday evening members of communities from Llanbedr to Tywyn along the coast and inland as far as Dinas Mawddwy were welcomed to the Arts Room of the Dragon Theatre by County Councillor Trevor Roberts. The purpose of the evening was to afford the communities a chance to express their wishes for the future development of the area. Key themes were highlighted upon which comments and suggestions were collected. From these key projects were identified. In closing the meeting that had been organised and managed by Hannah Edwards and Linsey Edwards, Regeneration officers with Cyngor Gwynedd, Councillor Roberts stressed that the work of the evening would be collated, recorded and added to the live document that will form the overall plans. He suggested that a meeting be held in twelve months time to review the progress of the plan and measure how successful the evenings exercise had been.

Water Colour

There are a few places available on the new “Watercolours for beginners” course that is being run by the U3A. The sessions will begin on March 3rd and will run from 1pm till 4-30pm in Parlwr Bach of the Dragon Theatre.
