Vicky Stonehouse who is the eldest daughter of David and Carol Jones, Heol y Llan is celebrating her success. She has been working at Llandudno hospital while studying for a degree in nursing. On July 11th she was awarded a Batchelor of Nursing and as a result of the qualification she will now take up the post of Staff Nurse at the hospital. A former pupil of Ysgol Ardudwy she is congratulated by friends and family.

Bitter harvest

Many in town will know Cliff Probert, over the years he has developed many businesses in the town. He has also been a prolific writer in many genre. His play The New Bell is soon to be resurrected and a musical set in the 17th century is in development. Hot off the press now though is the sequel to Inheritance which he published in 2007. The new book entitled Bitter Harvest. Tells of hardship ultimately overcome and a bad marriage finding a good resolution. Set in the local area many will be reading and working out the true identity of some of the locations. Those who have read the U3a’s compilation Joined up writing will have had a taster of Cliffs writing as he was a contributor to that anthology. Copies of this work can be found at Goodies coffee shop in Barmouth and in good book shops.

Passing

On Wednesday the funeral of Mary Citrine Roberts was held in Christchurch. The principal mourners were her two sons Cllr Trevor Roberts and Christopher with their respective families and partners. Mary was always proud of the achievements of the two boys. The service drew attention to the many interests that had featured in a long life that had included service to the community through wartime nursing, Red Cross service and numerous others. Reference was made to her poetry writing, that had won awards and had appeared in no less a place than 10 downing street. The poem that appeared on the order of service had been sent to and acknowledged by Gordon Brown. Those at the funeral may not be aware that Mary had been a keen supporter of the samba Band, they, realising the significance of the day at their practice session went and played on the seafront in memory of their fan.

The Vicar of Dibley

Bermo Arts summer production opened to a full house on Wednesday last. The popular t.v. comedy has been brought to live audiences by a talented group of local actors, film makers and under the direction of Ann Court. Tickets are on sale on the door for performances that begin at 7-30 each Wednesday, forward bookings can be made by calling 01341 281697.

Huntington's Disease Research

The annual Coffee Morning is organised to raise money to continue research into this condition that is an hereditary disorder of the central nervous system. Both men and women are affected in adulthood with a range of symptoms. The event in Barmouth will be held in the Dragon Theatre on Saturday 15th August from 10am till 1pm there will also be a Grand Raffle, to be drawn at 12-30 and various stalls. Your support and interest in this area of health would be greatly appreciated by the organisers.

Barefoot in the Park

This production is the most competent amateur adaptation of a big screen film that anyone could wish for. The acting is superb, the story line is coherent, the humour is perfectly timed. Even the set is imaginative. Hope for rain on Monday to give you the excuse to be indoors on a summer evening, this is a play not to be missed. Paradisii Theatre Company come from Criccieth with this lively entertainment every Monday in August. Curtain up at 8pm.Tickets can be bought at the door or reserved by calling 01341 281697.

Music in Barmouth

Thursday night is music night, tonight 13th Ben Walker will be live in the Arts room at the Dragon Theatre and next week 20th Catrin O’Neil Trio will be taking over the venue where the Welsh Irish folk singer and songwriter will be joined by Mike Lease on fiddle and Chris Knowles on Celtic Harp and Bouzouki. Two weeks of Celtic music to enhance your holiday experience and to showcase local supporting talent.
