FRIENDS OF HAFOD MAWDDACH

A very successful Coffee Evening was held at Hafod Mawddach on Wednesday 8th July Due to the kindness and generosity of many people we were able to raise over £300. This is designated for a New Digital Television for the Residents lounge. We extend our grateful thanks to all who worked so hard and contributed towards the evening. It was good to have so many residents joining us and enjoying time with visitors. Our thanks also go to the Staff for their support and help Over the past 25 years the Fund Raising Group has donated over £10/000 towards equipment and furnishings which have helped to improve the Quality of life for the Residents. A Party is also arranged at Christmas and the residents each receive a gift. We operate a Weekly Trolley Service which provides little extras like sweets crisps biscuits and fruit. If anyone would like to get involved with this group please contact Carol Clay.

U3A July Meeting

The topic & speaker at this month's gathering must have sounded promising, since there were almost 30 members and friends present to hear Tony lies give a very interesting presentation on the shipwrecks of Cardigan Bay. The presentation was up to expectations, and was well illustrated with slides... mainly concerning the Bronze Bell Wreck, its' discovery by a local diving group, and subsequent salvaging operations. We all then moved down to the Maritime Museum, and having had the initial presentation by Tony, were able to put the wonderful exhibition at Ty Gwyn well into context. he next monthly gathering of the U3A will be on Wednesday 9th September, when the speaker will be Huw Jenkins, on 'Snowdonia & Slovenia'. Next winter, we will be meeting in Parlwr Mawr, on the second Wednesday of the month.

Carnifal Cambria

The workshop sessions to create costumes and creatures for the parade attracted over 80 people to the session held in the Arts room at the Dragon Theatre . Locals and visitors took part and then formed the parade on Saturday that was led by an incredibly hard working Samba Bermo. The parade went from Barmouth to Harlech and then on to Criccieth , returning to Barmouth in the evening on the train sponsored by Arriva. The one disappointment of the day was the failure of the steam train to materialise but the local spirit and energy made the day a great success despite this. Sincere thanks are sent to the Samba Band and to the staff of Theatre Harlech to Denise Bott of Communities First and all who helped with the arrangements .
