Tenovus

On the 19th April on a lovely Sunday morning Sandra, Maria and the volunteer’s of Tenovus Barmouth did a 10 mile sponsored walk in aid of the charity. The walk started at Penmaenpool and the ladies walked along the old railway track at the side of the Mawddach estuary and across Barmouth Bridge. Sandra the Manager would like to thank everyone who has so kindly sponsored the charity. Over £1,000 has been raised. Sandra would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers at Barmouth shop for all their hard work, dedication and continued support. (Web guy's comment: That's my cousin Sandra - great job!)

Home at last

Welcome home to Glyn Williams of Glan Glasfor who has spent fourteen weeks in isolation at Maelor hospital in Wrexham suffering with a diabetic ulcer on his left foot. While there he received great care from Mr P.W. Laing, Orthopaedic surgeon along with excellent support from doctors and nurses on Dolydd ward. He has now been allowed back to Barmouth with clear instructions that he must remain at home for the next eight weeks and must not put any weight on the foot concerned. He is wished continued steady recovery.

U3A April Meeting

The Barmouth U3A met for its’ next monthly gathering, in the Arts Room of the Dragon Theatre on Tuesday 21st. April After the usual get together, Sarah Worth, of the National Trust, addressed the gathering with particular attention to Egryn Abbey at Talybont, which is now a National Trust property. Sarah’s enthusiasm for both her job, and Egryn in particular, conveyed itself to her audience. The history of Egryn is long & varied, from prehistoric settlements & burial chambers to medieval cultural gatherings, and even 20th century unrivalled collections of agricultural implements. A number of U3A members seem certain to be visiting the property, during its’ next open day. The next meeting will be on Tuesday 19th May, when the AGM will be followed by a presentation on the early Quakers of Merionethshire.

BARMOUTH & DYFFRYN FOOTBALL CLUB

The latest monthly meeting of the Management Committee of the Barmouth & Dyffryn United Football Club took place on Monday, 20th April. Representatives of the First Team, Reserves, and Junior Teams were present. In particular the Committee discussed arrangements for the First Team's last four home games in the current season's Welsh Alliance League at Wern Mynach Ground. These fixtures include a match against Llanrwst on Saturday, 25th April, which Barmouth won 2-1, mid-week evening games starting at 6.30pm against Nefyn on Tuesday, 28th April and against Llanllyfni on Thursday, 30th April, and an afternoon match starting at 2.30pm against Bethesda Athletic, the League Champions, on Monday, 4th May (May Day).Successful results in these matches will enable the First Team to consolidate it's mid league position in the first year in this premier league, so attendance by Club supporters at these matches will be much appreciated. As well as Senior Teams, a main objective of the Football Club is to promote footballing skills among children of all ages. With this in mind, on "May Day" 4th May, as well as the Bethesda Match in the afternoon, the club shall arrange a "Football Fun Day" for children of up to 11years old in the morning at the Wern Mynach Ground, Park Road, Barmouth, starting at 10.00am. This morning event will comprise a structured coaching session by Club Manager, Brian Harvey, followed by skill competitions and penalty shoot-outs, and culminating in "world cup" games. All children who participate will be awarded a Certificate of their performance on the day, together with "goodies" and spot prizes. All children (and their parents as spectators), whether local inhabitants or holiday makers, will be welcome. A charge of £2 per person will be payable, which will include entry for the morning coaching session and afternoon match against Bethesda. Refreshments will be available throughout the day. Children/parents who would like to participate in this "Football Fun Day" coaching session should contact Kristina Ryan, tel no 01341 280843, or Brian Wood, tel no 01341 280103/email brian.d.wood@btinternet.com. Barmouth WI

The April monthly meeting was opened by Mari O’Rourke, the president. Welcoming and inviting everyone to sing Meirion, accompanied by Blodwen Commerford on the piano. Mari then commenced the meeting by telling us that Margaret Price had celebrated her 101st birthday and that wishes had been sent. The digital storytelling had been very good with about 20 WI ladies representing Barmouth attended. Everyone who went on the Spring Ramble to the waterfalls in Coed y Brenin thoroughly enjoyed the day. The president then welcomed the speaker for the evening, Mr Paul Mills. He gave a very interesting talk about Kerfoots in Porthmadog of which he used to own but has now retired. Doreen Gill warmly gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the WI saying it had been very interesting. The raffle was won by Betty Morris and the plant was won by Christine Lees. Our president Mari thanked the tea hostesses, Alma Havercroft, Lin Dury & Christine Dearden for the beautiful food. Denise Bott was also thanked for doing the slide projector. Next months meeting is to be held on may 27th
