On 1 March 1971, WO1 Paul Vernon Black, WO1 Robert Uhl, sp5 Gary C. David, and SP4 Frank Sablan were shot down near Dambe, Cambodia and their helicopter reportedly burst into flames.
All on board were lost.
At 0900 today, 6 November 2003, CW3 Paul Vernon Black, CW2 Robert Uhl, Sp5 Gary C. David, and SP4 Frank Sablan were buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. Many family members, representatives of various groups and agencies, Rolling Thunder and former members of the 371st RRC (Dan Madison, Tom Kutz, Randy Dudley, Joe Beegle) were in attendance. We attended the services at the Old Post Chapel, followed the horse drawn carriage, and the honor guard platoon from the 3rd Infantry regiment, and stood in the warm fall rain while prayers were said, flags were folded, tears were wept, volleys were fired, and taps was played.
In 1971, we lost our friends, our sons, our brothers, our cousins. Today we honored them.
Never Forget
