Example Analysis

Below is the result of computing and displaying diversity for an image of Mount Washington in New Hampshire. The diversity grid size was 10, yielding a sample of 21x21 or 441 pixels around each pixel in the image. The polygons outlined in black and white in the image are the areas that were 75-100% of their maximum possible diversity. Note: the overlay of these diversity polygons are maintained when toggling back and forth between the original image (a), and the diversity image (b). The graphs show the histogram for each of these images. The arrow in the image points to an area of landslides in Tuckerman's ravine where the diversity is particularly high. Note: that the summit of the mountain in orange results in a low diversity value indicated by the white and light gray.
