First Visit Gallery!

I had been stitching only a couple of years when I started to use my own patterns and I was surprised how easy it was to stitch them. This type of pattern is very interesting to stitch because if you step back, the work seems to come to life, faces can be quite scary!

Framed cross stitch and photo I have stitched several portrait pictures of family and friends but they may not be of interest to other people, except this one perhaps. It is from a sepia photo taken in Birmingham, England in 1918 or 1919 and shows my mother-in-law (center front) and her sisters. They were known locally as the "Holdaway sisters". Do you remember them?

The pattern has 152 by 200 stitches. The model is stitched on 16 count and mounted in a 10" by 13" frame. On 14 count the stitching would measure approximately 11" by 14".
