Water lilies and lotus blossoms are commonly seen on Caddo Lake, near Uncertain, Texas. My sister Debbie and her husband have a lot there and introduced me to the unparalleled beauty there. The serene beauty of the water lily reminds me of my sister. Debbie is six years younger than I, and we weren't really close when we were both growing up. But since our mother died in 1993, we have grown closer to each other. I have thought a lot about my mom lately, and in reflecting have realized how much my sister Debbie reminds me of our mother. Debbie is quiet and thoughtful, compassionate and caring, always thinking of others. As Ann Boland, a friend of Debbie's said to me recently,"Debbie is a special person." My sister would literally take the shirt off her back if I needed it, has always offered help to family and friends.
Just as the water lily in bloom stands out quietly among all the plants of Caddo Lake, so my sister Debbie stands out among the people around her. I don't tell my sister often enough how special she is. I love you, Debbie. |
