May 11, 2001 – Mesa Airlines Interview

I just got home from Phoenix where I interviewed with Mesa Airlines today.  I think it went well and am very excited about this airline.

Mesa is the largest regional airline in the country that is not owned by another airline (so that doesn’t include bigger places like American Eagle, Comair, and Continental Express).  They have 131 aircraft and about 1200 pilots, and operate as an express carrier (codeshare) for both America West and US Airways.

Mesa is headquartered in Phoenix but has pilot bases all over the country, mainly across the southwest and east coast.  They operate several different types of aircraft and I could be placed in any of them.

They will call within 7-10 days to either offer me a job or say “no thanks”, and will also give me an idea of which type of aircraft I would be flying.  Mesa is my number one choice, and if they offer me a job I will almost certainly accept it.

More on Mesa later if I get the job.  Otherwise, I will go to work for Continental Express in September, which is a pretty good airline itself!

In the meantime, I am happy to have completed all my interviews.  The process has been non-stop since the end of March when I attended an airline career fair in Los Angeles, and now I can sit back and just enjoy my current job.  Five weeks of flying to Lakeview and no other worries is going to do wonders for my mental health, especially if the weather continues to be nice.  For the first time in almost a year I do not have to worry about finding a job – now it’s just up to fate and the folks at Mesa.
