Professional Pilot Career Journal

January 11, 2001 – Last day of Ameriflight ground school

Well, basic indoctrination ground school is complete at Ameriflight!  We took our final exams today and I scored a 94%.  My flight training in the Cessna 402 is due to begin on Monday at 0900.

This job is certainly not going to be as simple as hopping in a plane and flying from airport to airport.  So many things have to be done, and on such a tight schedule, that I anticipate this job will be extremely challenging at least for the first few weeks.  For those of you in Civil Air Patrol who complain about the paperwork, you should see this!  Weight and balance is a way of life.

Tomorrow I head home to spend the weekend relaxing and studying materials for the 402.  Next week’s schedule looks to be a fairly regular day schedule.  Once I  complete flight training and begin IOE (initial operating experience), the hours will be much more inhuman.  So I’m going to enjoy training while it lasts.

Thanks for following along my journey through ground school.  I do not expect to make as many entries in the journal once I return home, but updates will be posted from time to time and when significant events happen.

Time to see what being a freight dog is really all about!
