January 6, 2001 – Ameriflight ground school day four

Personal: I found out Paul and Atsuko got married!  They were married on 22 NOV, and didn’t tell anyone until today.  That punk-ass brother of mine!  I’m very happy for the two of them.

Back in the simulator for the third and final ride today.  I did an ILS approach to Van Nuys, followed by a non-published missed approach procedure to an intersection hold.  My instructor said I did an excellent job and that my IFR skills would not be a problem at all when I begin my flight training.  That made me feel pretty good.

The day started at 0700 and ended at 1030.  Rough day.  Not really.

We have Sunday off.  I mentioned to a friend who was heading home to Fresno for the weekend that my parents live in Bakersfield and he offered to drop me off on his way up.  Unfortunately, Mom and Dad aren’t home this weekend, and are instead visiting my recently married brother and his wife in San Antonio.  However, the thought of spending all weekend in the stuffy Ramada Inn was unbearable so I decided to go to their house anyway and hang out for the weekend.  It’s very nice here, 70 degrees and sunny, and it’s good to get out of Burbank, even if only for a little while.

Next week is all classroom training, so we’re back to wearing ties and spending eight hours in class per day.  I got kind of spoiled with these short days this week.

No report tomorrow, see you all Monday!
