The Boots Family: Known Information

Have received recently Margaret (and other) Boots - wife of Jacob Pendroy information from the Duncan family in Oregon, information she found within  the LDS genealogy information. The information was posted by two people, whom I have not contacted as of yet, but intend to some time in future.

As mentioned earlier, three Boots and Pendroys married.

According to these researchers....The Hans Adam Boots shown was born as Hans Adam Stieffel in Germany.

(The Stieffels were said to have been in PA. early in their history.)

Boots Cemetery is said on Hoop Road outside of Xenia Ohio.

Hans (or Johan) Adam Stieffel - whose surname was changed to Boots, was born in  Mangaborhn Germany 1733. Came to US before 1767 and changed his name from Stieffel to Boots. (Stieffel is Boots in German.) He married a woman named Barbary (don't know it that is first or last name) before 1767 in West Virginia.

Adam Boots m Mary Elizabeth Ketterman 10-20-1788 in Hardy Co., W. Virginia. As provided to author, Mary Ketterman's parents were Michael and Elizabeth Ketterman. Michael Ketterman's parents were Hans Ketterman, born 1721 and Anna Catherine Read.

Married Jacob Pendroy. Died in Monroe, Iowa.
Barbary Gorman Boots    born 10-04-1789    died 06-07-1862. She was the second wife of Rueben Strong, and is buried with him in the Strong Cemetery.
Jacob Boots    born 26 Nov., 1791 (Note to see Clyde Boots genealogy for info on this Jacob Boots.(?) ) married Susannah Bergdoll 3 June 1814. Died 31 July 1861.
Joel Boots    born 03-18-1798 and died 11-18-1837. Married on 04-28-1825 to Sarah Pendroy 04-28-1825 in Green Co., Ohio. (baptism record - for 17, Sept 1798 in Mill Creek Lutheran Church, Hardy County.  W Va.
Martin Boots    born 07-14-1803    died 03-15-1873. Martin married Rhoda Strong Dill , who was the daughter of Rueben Strong. Rueben Strong was the justice of the Peace that married Pendroys and Boots in Greene County Ohio in 1820s. Children of Martin and Rhoda were   Lydia, Leah, Rueben, Cicero Dill (Possibly from first marriage to unknown Dill.).
Adam Boots   (III)   born 10-27-1805   08-28-1828 Married Jane Pendroy 08-28-1828 in Green Co., Ohio.  Buried near Selma, in Delaware County, Indiana. Found this mention of Adam and David Boots from 1899, which came from a scrap book of Margaret (Pendroy) Marnelee. Greene County will probated 1863. Jonathon Ketterman one of the witnesses. n(Author note: one piece of information mentions a "Hanna?" in relation to Adam Boots. Do not know if this could be a first or middle name or who it is, or if significant.)
Jesse Boots    born 04-19-1808 died 05-30-1883. Married Sarah Ann Thornburg. (Author note: James Pendry had a daughter that was the sister of the (old) ELI PENDROY. That daughter married Joel Thornburg, and the family was near the Pendroys in Greene County Ohio. Need to identify this Sarah Ann Thornburg. there was also a sister Sarah to Dinah) Second marriage Anna Catherine died 21 Dec. 1852.
Levi Boots    born 08-17-1812 in Grant County West Virginia.  died 08-28-1843. Buried in Strong Cemetery. Tombstone said to exist. Married to Mary  Campbell on 7 Nov. 1833. Mary Campbell's Parents were James (b1796) and Elizabeth (Dean) Campbell. Elizabeth Dean was a daughter of Daniel (b 1766) and Janet (Steele)  Dean. Daniel Dean's parents were George Roger and Mary (Campbell) Dean.   They (Daniel and Janet or Jennet (Steele) Dean) had 11 children. Robert Dean was the first born and  father of William Campbell Dean. (Subject of the memorial Biographical sketch) Mary C. who married James Moore. Janet S. who married Hugh Campbell. Elizabeth who married James Campbell. Margaret who married John Bicket. William who married Catherine Shook. James who married Elizabeth Pendroy and moved to Delaware County, Indiana. (Note: This is spelled PendrAy or Pendry in some publications, but handwritten marriage record is correct as PendrOy).  Joseph who married Hanna Boggs. Ann who married Walter Perry. Daniel who married  Jane Campbell. And Julia who married James Hopping.     Mentioned in will of James Campbell records of Greene County, Ohio.   Obituary card at Muncie Public Library states he was a county Commissioner at time of his death. Land records: Levi Boots entered Section 16, Delaware Township Del. County. March 1837, Mud Creek crosses the farm. "History of Delaware Co"  by John S. Ellis.

Have a letter from a woman. This researcher said she believed Boots and Pendroys were together in Hardy Co West Virginia before going to Greene County, Ohio. This researcher stated she did not record its location. She stated the Boots were German.

Also have received  from a Boots family member this information, concerning an Eli Pendroy Boots."  This Eli Pendroy Boots' parents have not been identified  yet. "Eli Pendroy Boots b2/20/1832 died 8/9/1894 Buried White Cemetery Selma, IN - died from typhoid fever."

Received new information March 20, 2000 stating that this Eli Pendroy Boots was  married to Helen Minerva Neal in Delaware County Indiana.   This Helen Minerva Neal died August 9, 1894 in Selma, Indiana.
