THE PROBLEMS OF SPRINGTIME RIDING

In the spring and early summer your motorcycle seat can be one of the most dangerous places on earth. Here's why.

1. Car and truck drivers have had the road all to themselves all   winter. They haven't seen a cyclist in months. It almost seems they're out to get you.

2. Nasty road conditions. With "killer" chuckholes, oil slicks, sand and salt virtually everywhere you go, your bike will want to go out from under you.

3. Unwelcome "surprises", like snarling dogs out for a taste of your leg because you've invaded their territory.

4. Your riding skills are rusty. Believe it or not, it's true. It takes a couple of weeks at the start of the season to get back into top riding shape.

What can you do. Take it easy. Be aware of the dirty streets, the unaware drivers and your own shortcomings. Find a empty parking lot and practice making a circle. If you can, take a ERC course. Remember, gray-haired bikers don't get that way from pure luck.
