This being a page devoted to some of Peter Aronson's interests, particularly, but not necessarily exclusively, board games of various sorts.
Why Chess variants you may ask? Because Chess is infinitely malleable, and can be varied in ways beyond number. And because while Chess is a superb game, it can become an overly familiar, overly studied one. And I just plain like making up Chess variants.
All of my Chess variants are hosted on the Chess Variant Pages, where I am an editor. Specific variant pages:
I contributed to the revision of the following Chess variant by Ralph Betza:
My daughter Jenny has also invented a Chess variant:
Zillions of Games is a general purpose, programmable, board game engine. It is best at playing Chess-like and Checkers-like (or Draughts-like if you prefer) games, but it has been made to do amazing things by those who have studied its programming. I have few non-Chess variants on their site, and almost all of my Chess variants above have Zillions Rules Files allowing you to play them with Zillions.
These are links to the pages on the Zillions site where I have original games. They don't have rules, just a screen shot and summaries, but even without Zillions you could download the rules file and look at the text parts. However, that's tedious, so eventually I will make real rule pages for them, too.
These are games you can play with Icehouse pieces, which are really neat multipurpose playing pieces available from Looney Labs. The current models are plastic (paper are available), and stack, and come in (at last count) nine colors. I have recently bought a set, am having fun thinking of thinks do to with them, while avoiding having them end up in the vacuum cleaner.
This is where I post the rules for my non-Chess variant, non-Icehouse games.
A relatively harmless vice.
