Welcome.. to Richardson's Landing.
The whistleshop was established in 1999 and is located in Cincinnati, Ohio. We collect old steam and air whistles that were used on boats, trains, factories, traction engines, and from other steam applications. Our uncle, an avid steam whistle collector, urged us to build our own copies of some of the old whistles of bygone years. With his vast experience in machine shop operation we learned the art of building whistles from start to finish. We enjoyed building that first whistle and decided to make other reproductions.
The whistleshop has a 16" South Bend engine lathe that had been sitting unused in an old factory. The lathe has been totally restored. The shop contains a full wood working area complete with table, band, and scroll saws, a 15" drill press, as well as an eighty gallon air compressor for whistle blowing.
The first whistle we built, a copy of the John W. Hubbard, was blown on steam at Tall Stacks 99 (a celebration of the riverboatin' era) here in Cincinnati to the delight of the crowd. The idea was to carry on the lost tradition of the steam whistle for future generations to enjoy. It is our hope that this websight will help others to discover the important role that the steam whistle played in America's Industrial Revolution.
