In the world of reality, there is no self, no other than self."To say this is easy, to believe it intellectually is not difficult. It has an emotional, a poetical appeal which few can withstand. With a full belly, a bank balance, when-all is going well, such a doctrine will be readily adopted. But when food is scarce, when a man has lost his job, in hours of boredom, when children die, and our own death is not far off, - can we then rejoice with those that rejoice and mourn with those that mourn?
"In my own case, I must say that nothing makes me more contented with my lot than to see the sufferings of others, to find my children cleverer and prettier than those of my colleagues. How far indeed is this from the lines above."
~~ R. H. Blyth
