Here's a link to my Charles Vess Page . When I was traveling in
the Highlands and Islands of Scotland in '87, a friend and I were stuck way out on this
country road on the Isle of Lewis, trying to hitch a ride back to the youth hostel.
One car had passed us in the last hour so things weren't looking good. Just when the
midgies started to bite and we were expecting to get back around midnight, a car stopped
for us. It was Charles Vess and Mary. He told us about a cabin
he was renting in Duirinish and invited us to stay there. A few days later, when all
four of us were gathered there, I was able to see some art that he was working on and also
some comic books that had come out recently. I remember how he was interested in the
gaelic language and history of the area. I could easily understand why. That
part of the world is an incredible, magical area. When I got home, I started looking
for Charles' works and paying attention when covers or stories came out. I've really
enjoyed the art he's created and hope you do too!
