| Lunch with the Queen of Land, Sea, and Air All morning long, I follow my mother. She waters the flowers Indoors and out. Wherever she goes, it rains gently down. "Amazing azaleas, Beautiful begonias..." Her soothing soft voice helps green things to grow. Next, it's time for the fish— Goldilocks and Goldstein. My mother shakes the container of special fish food, Sprinkles, And "Ooh!" Two orange mouths come kissing. Soon it's Pretty Petey's turn. He's our parakeet. My mother changes the paper on the floor of his cage, Refills his feeder to the top with fresh seed— A thousand and one tiny beads. And then my mother makes our lunch. Roast beef on rye bread with mustard and lettuce— That's what I like best. And cold chocolate milk in my polka dot glass. |
