Applied woodwind is a musical performance course designed to enhance the skills used in solo and small ensemble performances. Performance requirements will be assigned to accommodate the skill level of the student.
OBJECTIVES:
1)understand performance practices appropriate to historical periods of music.
2)understand performance practices appropriate to various types of ensembles.
3)understand the principles and requirements of applied music instruction at the middle school, secondary, and college levels.
4)identify professional organizations and publications concerned with music performance and education.
5)identify career opportunities in music.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Each music-major is required to complete two(2) performances, Seminar and Jury, during this course of study. Non-music majors and education certification students may, at the discretion of the professor, have a research project in lieu of public performances. The summer session requirements will be amended to accommodate the musical level of the student within the time limit provided. The student is required to contact the vendor, arrange performance times/dates. The professor will select the literature to be performed. Applied lessons will begin on the "first" day of scheduled class meetings.
2. Unexcused absences from lessons or performances will constitute a "F" for that event or class session, unless the professor was notified of this absence "24" hrs. prior to scheduled meeting time.
3. All students are required to do a RESEARCH PROJECT, which is a "1/3" of your grade. It is your responsibility to contact the professor for details about the project "before" the end of the semester.

1)daily technical proficiencies-ALL WOODWIND students
2)major/minor scales, all forms
3)etudes-recommended by the professor
4)solo/small ensemble literature
5)sight reading studies
Evaluation of your grade and the grading scale will be discussed by the professor at the beginning of the semester. The research project will be included in the calculation of your final grade. It is "your" responsibility to contact the professor if you missed this lecture.
***No lesson/performance can be made up without "vaild" documentation of the reason this event was missed.
Signing up for the class late, automotive, personal, and children hardships are not valid justifications.
