Basic Music Procedures

SUMMER COURSE: M-TH 10:00-12:00

TEXTBOOK: "Musical Classroom" by Hackett and Lindeman (Students may also be required to purchase musical materials.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The primary goal of this course is to provide students
with a frame work for understanding the basic components of music: melody, rhythm, harmony and
form.

OBJECTIVES:

To successfully demonstrate the following:
1) an understanding of the goals and objectives of elementary music education as they relate to the National Standards, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, and the TAAS objectives.

2) an understanding of the scope and sequence of the general music program as it is integrated into the math, language arts, reading, science, and social studies curricula.

3) an understanding of the learning process as it relates to aural and visual discrimination of tonal and rhythmic elements.

4) ability to perform simple songs on the recorder and piano with accompaniment.

5) skills in incorporating music into an elementary classroom and other subject areas, besides music.

6) knowledge in using Kodaly, Orff, and Dalcroze teaching techinques in lessons.


COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

1) BE ON TIME!!
2) BE ON TIME!!!
3) Attend all class meetings.
4) Complete all exams/quizzes.(Quizzes can not be made up.)
5)Email address.
6)Access to a computer.
7) Soprano Recorder

EXAMS (100) AND QUIZZES (10) POINTS EACH ARE GIVEN AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS, LATE COMERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE PART IN THESE ACTIVITIES.

Evaluation of your grade and the grading scale will be discussed by the professor at the beginning of the semester. It is "your" responsibility to contact the professor if you missed this lecture.

***No test/exam can be made up without "valid" documentation of the reason the test/exam was missed. Signing up for the class late, automotive, personal, and children hardships are not valid justifications.

MISSING THE MID TERM OR FINAL EXAM "WILL" RESULT IN 100 POINTS BEING DEDUCTED FROM YOUR FINAL GRADE.
