Join Us! We are currently working on raising funds to expand and remodel the library. Completed in July 1993, the building was supposed to meet the needs of the community for at least 20 years. Beginnng about 2000, however, use of the library began to grow at a gratifying and somewhat alarming rate. By 2003, we knew that the existing 4,200 square feet of library space and meeting room were not going to serve the communities needs for another 10 years. We were right. Presently, the library is considering closing its meeting room to provide more space for its growing collections and growing numbers of patrons. The library has WiFi now, something we could not anticipate in 1993. The crowding and hustle and bustle in the library is so bad that people will sit in their cars with their laptops to use the WiFi system. That is not a good option in our wet and chilly winters.
We need to expand the library. We need more room for kids and teens and adults who like to read, cruise the internet and work on research projects. We need more room for older people who like to read the newspaper or magazines. We need more room for the visitors to our beautiful coast to check their email and extend their reservations. We need to keep our meeting room open, that rare space where people can hold meetings on any subject for free, without restriction on content: where groups can help people with their taxes, give free classes; tutor adults and children; and, where our children gather for free library-sponsored programs like book bingo, reading is magic, and others.
Join now and help us more forward to expand the library. It's good for the community!
Besides our ongoing fundraising efforts for the library expansion and remodel, we support a variety of library programs. To do that, we resell donated books. We'll be in the Book Room behind the Planning Office, selling used books, every 2nd Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., twelve months a year, rain or shine. That's a promise!
And, we do more! Friends assist the Librarians by re-shelving books, mending books, and inputting new titles into the system.
Friends support and facilitate special Library programs of interest to the community.
We have had plant sales and bake sales, and a whole host of fundraisers. We are currently offering T-shirts and book bags.
When do we meet?
We meet at the Library at 2 p.m. every 2nd Monday (except July and Aug).
We look forward to having you join us. There is so much that we could do with your help.
Who Belongs to the Friends?
People who live here year-around, and others who visit for a few days or weeks or months a year. People who care about having a fine library available to everyone without restrictions or costs.
