For forty years the Orland Historical Society has preserved artifacts, genealogies and historical documents pertaining to the settling and growth of our town. Through volunteer work and many donations of family artifacts and histories of Orland people, a wonderful museum is now housed in the old Grange Hall. Numerous exhibits depicting the life style and way of life of early Orland families are on display in the museum. These have been used as an educational tool by teachers and students at the Orland Consolidated School, thus enhancing and stimulating their interest in local town history. Other groups have frequently visited and learned much by talking with the elders who were there to chat with them about the old times.
Now the museum building, which is over two hundred years old, requires costly repairs. The need is urgent. The foundation and sills have done their work well for many, many years, but must be replaced before the building is no longer reparable. This work also entails raising the building, new drainage and a concrete floor. Shingles on the eastern roof need replacing. Your financial assistance is necessary. This work must be done to insure that these treasures which connect us all to the historic past will be protected for future generations.
The Orland Historical Society museum exists because of generous contributions by Orland residents and others who love the town. We are confident you will help us save this historic and important building. A self addressed envelope is enclosed for your convenience. No amount is too small and all will be gratefully received. Please send us your donation today.
