Recipients of the Military Order of Max Joseph in World War I |
![]() |
On these pages you will find biographical information about the recipients of the Military
Order of Max Joseph (Militär-Max Joseph-Orden) in the First World War (1914-1918). The
biographies cover personal information, career highlights, promotions and other known
decorations. Currently, only a limited number of biographical pages are competed. These
are indicated by the
icon. In addition,
where I don't yet have a bio, I have added photos where available which are viewable by clicking the
button.
I intend to add more complete bios as often as I can, but there is also a basic list of all recipients which includes name, rank and unit, dates of award, and other known decorations. To access the list, please click on the link at the top of the sidebar on the left side of the page.
I also hope to add more photos as these become available. Most of the photos here come from the following sources: Das Bayernbuch vom Weltkriege 1914-1918, Die Führer des Reichsheeres, various Sanke postcards, and regimental histories.
Biographical information is drawn from, among other sources:
I would also kindly acknowledge the assistance of the various research gurus of Imperial German military matters, especially Glenn Jewison, Daniel Krause, Chris Boonzaier, Rick Lundström and Christophe Deruelle.
