Read Me. This and the Brief_Directions.txt is all you must read or should need to read, though you will need to read toSubmitToServer.txt if you want to go with the option of submitting the results to a server. Other documents are provided just FYI. Things have changed as of 10-01-03 and, again, as of early December. You should read the Brief_Directions.txt (now new) AGAIN even if you have read it before. Also you must read the notes below. Other - New Instructions: Run test_prepper.html before giving any test (i.e. before a student opens an online test built with TestBuilder). test_prepper.html is the same as delete_cookies.html but hides its purpose. If the program sample test does not run in the folder it unzips into: Copy all the files and put them in a new folder (do not just rename the folder the files unzip into) -- do not make folder names too long (web servers "care"). The folder this zip unzips into automatically has too long a name for many systems/web servers and the files should be MOVED to another folder of your choice. Also: Deleting cookies from a sub-sub folder will not be adequate, if cookies have not been deleted from some folder higher in the hierarchy. The regular enc7.js file has NOT been updated with all the new security features, because submitting results to a server (IF you do that) takes care of security problems. BUT, this regular version of the js file should NOT be used for tests which you grade ONLY in class and do NOT submit. enc7NS.js is now for ALL practical (real test) purposes SECURE -- students cannot cheat without being caught. Efforts have been put into not only providing a system for making online tests with several sorts of options easy to build, but also great efforts have been put into making tests given in class by teachers with NO cgi (i.e. no "server rights") to have a very secure way to give online real tests in class and not have to worry about cheating. THIS GOAL HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED. People who bother to learn this "system" find it as easy and effective as humanly possible. It takes just minutes to demonstrate the way this set of tools work, and if my instruction do not convey the ease and convenience and effectiveness and true practical security of tests built with this "system", THEN it is only the fault of this writer. All other htm/html files in the zip need to be put in the same location (on your site) as the test html file. Also the one wav file should be put there as well. P.S. The several versions of enc7NS.js you see are simply the slightly modified versions for use with the sample tests (built with TestBuilder) -- those tesst named: NNSSample.html and the identical test, NSSample.html . (For each real world use of enc7NS.js a few lines of code need to be modified AND THAT IS ALL. That is explained in the Brief Directions.)
