1898 Spanish Army Buttons

Antique (100 years old) captured in Cuba during the 1898 Spanish American War, Spanish Army uniform buttons. Many of these were as worn by the Spanish troops that defended the block houses at such places as San Juan Hill - assaulted by Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders and the Black 24th US Infantry. These buttons were obtained decades ago and were sold in the now famous Bannermans Military Goods Catalog. All buttons are original 1898 SAW captured examples, documentation is also provided showing the captured Spanish buttons in a recent book about the 1898 Spanish American War, by Brassey Publications (ISBN 1-85753-272-4).

Maker marked buttons are $15.00 each, plus shipping, non-maker marked (nmm) examples are $9.99 each. Each button listed is different in some way, i.e., number design, materials used, maker or fabrication, and/or size: where #1 to 85 are front of tunic size = approx 2 cm diameter, and #86 to 158 are cuff/pocket size = 1.5 cm diam., except for #132 which is also tunic size.
