John Bartram

Few people, comparatively speaking, now know anything of John Bartram, the friend and constant correspondent of

Peter Collinson (Royal Botanist to King George III.), the intimate of Benjamin Franklin, and, through his letters,
of Sir Hans Sloane, the fellow of the learned Dr. Gronovius, and even of the great Linnaeus himself, who pronounced
Bartram "the greatest of living natural botanists."
