ROCKET
- Estes Comanche 3
DATE - 6-16- 97
ENGINE - D12-0, C6-0, B6-4
STATUS - R.I.P.
HOW'D IT GO - Two
words; LAWN DART. This thing was totally messed up when I got it back.
Since liftoff this one was a dud. I shoved the engines in and 5…4…3…2…1…liftoff!
I followed it with my binoculars but it was pretty far away by the time
I found it. I watched it closely and saw that the stages never fell off.
The rocket started to fall but the streamers never came out. It took a
300 foot dive into the dirt about 50 feet away from me. When I got up close
the nose cone was buried about four inches in the ground, the body tube
was torn apart, and the fins were falling off. There was no engine in the
C stage, the front of the B stage engine was black, and the A stage engine
was completely untouched. So what happened was the D booster fired but
didn't ignite the C booster, just charred it, therefore the B6-4 engine
was never ignited and the ejection charge never pushed the recovery system
out. I've read that a lot of people have had the same problem I did with
the stages not igniting and the body tube is extremely thin and flexible
so I wouldn't recommend spending the $15.00 on this "paper" rocket. I've
glued the fins back together and trashed the body. I'm going to try to
make a smaller rocket out of the of the leftover, but repaired C and B
stages. Here's a picture of what's left of my Comanche
