BLACK POWDER MOTORS
Black powder motors
are made of yeah, black powder (what a genius you are). The motor is made
up of six different sections and each section has a different function.
First you have the clay nozzle. This is what you shove the igniter and
plug into. Second is the lift-off propellant. This is obviosly what boosts
the rocket into the air. Third is the coast phase and tracking smoke. Coast
phase is when the propellant burns out but the rocket is going fast enough
that the force of gravity doesn't affect it. Forth is the ejection charge.
This fires out the back of the engine and pushes the nosecone and the parachute
out so you can get your rocket back. Fifth, you have your clay retainer
cap which is just like a lid that protects the propellant grains. Finally,
there's the cardboard casing. This keeps the engine together.
