Earth and Social Justice
The Senior Meals Program is one of the Community Services supported by the First Presbyterian Church. Senior Meals, sponsored by Senior and Disabled Services, delivers meals to homebound seniors. The Cottage Grove Dining Room at 925 West Main serves a noon meal each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. All meals are planned by a dietician to meet at least one third of one’s daily nutrition needs.
Diners have a choice of two hot meal entrees, vegetables, bread, dessert, and beverage. A deli-style lunch is also available. Lunch is served to all persons age 60 or over regardless of income or residence. There is no charge for the meal, but a donation of $3.60, or whatever one can contribute, is suggested.
Cottage Grove Meal on Wheels serves home bound clients who have long- or short-term need for meals. A friendly volunteer may be the only contact a senior in an isolated living situation may have. Volunteer drivers are needed for the three Meals on Wheels routes, each serving 12 to 15 persons. Volunteers are also needed to help at the dining room with meal preparation, serving, and cleanup. Financial assistance is always welcome.
For more information or to volunteer call Sharon at 942-9261.

From the Treasurer: Stock Tips Do you know that donating stock can provide you with a double tax benefit? First, you may be able to claim a charitable contribution deduction in the amount of the current market value of the donated stock. That is, you can deduct not only the original cost you paid for the donated shares, but also the value of any increase in the value of those shares.
Second, you avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciated value of the donated stock. The church, however, pays no capital gains tax when it sells the stock. To realize these benefits, the donated stock shares must be transferred into a church account before they are sold. This is a simple procedure because we have accounts at two local financial institutions. The proceeds are then held by the church in a separate account from which they will be disbursed as you direct until all the proceeds of the donation have been used. To realize these tax advantages you must have owned the stock for more than one year.
Contact Virgil Miller @ 767-0763 for more information and/or for the Financial Institutions where we have accounts

For the winter months, Community Sharing can use blankets, sleeping bags, and personal hygiene items (shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and so on). There is a continuing need for baby supplies such as diapers, infant formula, and baby food. If you have questions about what items may be especially needs, call 942-2176.

Become a Link in Our Prayer Chain
Please consider joining the prayer chain. Many need your prayers.
We'd like to add a few more links to our church prayer chain. If you are
interested in joining the chain of caring people, please contact
Judy Anderson at 767-9180, jjAntiques@aol.com;
or Janette Dill, 946-1041, rdill@efn.org - or talk with one of them
during coffee hour.
Not for you? If you are interested in praying for those in need b
ut are difficult to contact by phone, or don't want to be
responsible for calling others . . . please consider being a branch
off the main chain. We can let you know who needs our prayers,
but you won't need to contact anyone.
Either way, please call or e-mail Judy or Janet soon
with your name, phone numbers where you can be reached,
what is the best time to reach you, how late is okay to call, and if you'd
like to be in the main chain or on a branch. Thanks!
Are you in need of prayer? Please allow us pray for you or
someone you care about. Call the church office, Judy, or
Janette to start the prayer chain. When it works at its best,
a prayer goes through the chain within a few hours.

If middle or high school students have ideas of activities they would like to see planned for the FPC Youth Group, please let Jill Hermansen know by email (hermie44@gmail.com), or talk with her or one of the members of the youth group at coffee hour.
The program our church has used for eleven years now in Koinonia is called Godly Play. It was developed initially by an
Episcopal priest named John Berryman, based on the work and philosophy of Maria Montessori. Anyone who wants to know more about
Godly Play might enjoy looking at http://www.godlyplay.org.Our after-church youth class uses a Bible survey course that was first developed at
Nassau Presbyterian Church in Princeton, NJ. You can see an overview of the course at http://www.pcusa.org/webelieve/yy_oldtestament.htm.
When we finish that course, we will continue with the New Testament survey:
