ILR # 91094
female b. 7-31-91
Verdad x Lacy Kay Dalton
Princessa stands 44" at the withers and we've worked
to get her weight up into a healthier (for her) 280 lb range.
Princessa's not altogether sure that having a specific human
is really necessary.
Princessa is, in short, a hoot! She has many of her grandma
Maggie's quirks and eccentricities, including a love for exploring
and ... climbing, of all things. Unlike Maggie and mom
Lacy, Princessa was never bred (let alone at the terribly young
ages they were), and so she has retained her athleticism and
exuberance. She enjoys going for walks and other adventures (whether
escorted or unauthorized!).
Unfortunately, Princessa lost one of her eyes as a result
of some kind of trauma sustained while at pasture, despite intensive
efforts to save the eye. She didn't initially think her life
should be limited by that, but she's having to re-assess that
concept as she blunders into things (and irritated pasturemates)
now and then.
It is doubtful after so many years of being pastured with
geldings that Princessa is reproductively sound. We are planning
to verify that before we write her off as a breeding llama, however.
If she is capable of having a baby or two, she will not be used
to produce llamas for sale. We merely want to try to produce
a daughter with an improved coat and the remarkably bold and
confident disposition Maggie passed on to virtually all of her
descendants so that trait is not lost to our small gene pool.

and probably death in a neglected herd of llamas.
Princessa's mother Lacy was registered as Lacy Kay Dalton
-- a twist on Lacy Jay Dalton, a country singer. Lacy's half-interest
owner was sooooo infuriated at the bastardization of the name
SHE chose for the llama (Lacey, referring to lace rather than
a country singer) that all successive female offspring of Lacy
had to have "lace" names: Princessa, Ruffles, and Chantilly.
We're not bats about the name "Princessa" at all, especially
for such an athletic animal, but Princessa is used to her name
and so we're not going to change it on her.
