Snake River Morgan

ILR # 61449
female b. 8-17-87
Black Tar x Sophia

Morgan stands 43" at the withers and has been running around 275 pounds since her arrival in August 1998. We liked Morgan very much from the first time we saw her, but never dreamed that she would be available for purchase. Morgan and Gwen have a special affinity for each other, even though Jim and many other people find they really enjoy Morgan.

In addition to providing remedial training, we are slowly working to clear up long-term skin conditions on Morgan's face and abdomen, an imposing task to say the least. Our knowledge advances in this department primarily encompass what she doesn't have, and what doesn't work. Some of what does work has long-term detriments, so we are still searching for treatment alternatives.

Even though we'd been eager to see what Dusty and Morgan (who is remarkably like Dusty, her color notwithstanding) would produce, we delayed Morgan's entry into our breeding program until we could treat her skin condition(s). After over a year of imporved diet and varied treatments, we've been able to ease Morgan's condition greatly, but hair is not returning to most of the damaged areas, probably because of permanent damage in the form of scar tissue.

Unfortunately, between Morgan's age (which would not be a significant problem had she not been bred so young) and her cohabitation with late geldings at her previous home, Morgan's reproductive tract has now acquired enough scarring that she is now unable to carry a pregnancy to term. We are extremely fortunate to have an excellent granddaughter, Finys, who has inherited Morgan's exceptional boldness and good muscling.

Morgan likes being out in the pasture and looking at all of her llama and nonllama neighbors, and thinks we are really not so bad now that she's learned all about ... GRAIN! She is also very happy to have someone who is not afraid to hug her because of her face. Morgan had an especially tight bond with her last offspring, Taiga.

Morgan's original name (which she did not answer to) was "Black Lace" -- a name we did not find particularly special or appealing. However, we were not pleased to find that it had ... uh ... negative connotations for many people. "Morgan" seemed to be a perfect fit for a compact, muscular llama that reminded us of a Morgan horse, and so Morgan it was. Morgan likes her new name very much.
