Dawn breaks over the village of Jakubovo, west of the Swolna river and the village of Kljascicy on the far shore. French scouts report the presence of a large Russian force ahead. The Russian General Wittgenstein has decided to counter the Second French Corps of Oudinot's movement towards the North, threatening his communication line with St. Petersburg.

Historicon, July 26-29 2007, Lancaster Host, PA.

Over the course of the weekend Bull Run/First Manassas ran virtually continuously. Thursday and Friday saw a minor Confederate victory, and with grit and determination the Union turned it around over the Friday and Saturday event. I personally was involved as the Union 1st Connecticut crossed the Stone Bridge to form a tentative bridgehead, only to be counter-attacked and sent reeling back against the banks of Bull Run. A meager 250 men escaped across the stone bridge and over 500 men laid down their arms with no place to go. But following reverses such as these, slow and constant pressure turned the day for the Union to achieve a minor victory.

Polotsk, 1812 ran Saturday evening. Historically Oudinot had left most of the French artillery behind. Tactically this placed the French at a severe disadvantage opposed to the numerous Russian batteries. The game saw the French in aggressive mood, throwing themselves into the attack at all opportunities, in many cases straight into the face of double canister, with unfortunately for the French, predictable results. The French cavalry were more successful, until with blown horses following a series of charges, the 7th Cuirassiers were caught in the flank by Russian Dragoons, and lost their eagle. At this point the Bavarians attempting a flank assault against the Russian left were forced to turn about, as the Russian commander unleashed his artillery reserve of position and horse batteries. The battle was over, the Franco-Bavarians suffered about 5,000 losses whilst the Russians lost 3,000. A major victory to the Russians, which translated into a minor Russian victory as many of the routing French and Bavarians returned to the ranks over night.

See the HMGS PEL for more information.

Marsh] - 4 hours / 10 players, Arthur Wellesley's British forces are marching upon Lisbon in an attempt to throw the occupying French army out of Portugal. Junot has collected his forces and marched north to intercept the British and push them back into the sea. Both general's are looking to advance their reputations. The troops of both armies are trained but inexperienced, this will be a clash of musketry and cold steel. See the Havoc PEL for more information.

Austerlitz Re-fight, December 2005, Lancaster Host, PA.

Napoleonic, 1805 - [GM's Frank Luberti, Jr., Nigel P. Marsh and John Snead]: 28mm figures from multiple collections, including Bob Kerstetter, Fred Hubig, Pete Panzeri and Tom Garnett. Special guest speakers, Kevin Zucker, Col. Bill Gray [Retired] and Jim Birdseye. Napoleon - Todd Kauderer; Kutuzsov - Andy Zartolas.

Here are the complete results. It just keeps getting better - We hosted two battles, the first, as a primer for the main event, used an historical set-up of the forces engaged,  and resulted in a draw with the Allies winning in the North and the French winning on the Pratzen. The main event, allowing a non-historical set-up, began on Friday evening and was fought out over four gaming sessions on three tables, representing the Santon, Pratzen and Tellnitz areas. The overall results indicated a Major French victory. But as the Allies maintained their hold on the Olmutz road in the North, inflicting a major defeat on the French commanded by Lannes and Murat in that sector. It was decided that the overall strategic victory could not be given to Napoleon. The Austrian forces in the South were effectively eliminated, and Francis II would have probably sought an immediate truce with Napoleon - but the Russians had a clear road back to either Prussia or Poland, and with the Prussians mobilizing on the border, Alexander is still eager to overthrow Napoleon. During the re-fight, twenty-two French generals were wounded or captured, four mortally. Whilst the Allies suffered four generals lost, including the death of the Czar's brother. Konstantin died gloriously whilst leading his outstanding Imperial Guard Grenadier Regiment against Oudinot's Elite Combined Grenadier Division.

Antietam Re-fight, September 2005, Carlisle, PA.

American Civil War - Antietam, 1862 - [GM's Frank Luberti, Jr., Nigel P. Marsh and John Snead]: 28mm figures from multiple collections.

They don't get much better than this - beautiful terrain, thousands of figures and intense gaming. Played out on three tables, representing three separate scenarios, The Cornfield, The Sunken Lane and the Lower Bridge. The overall results showed a Major Confederate victory - but that didn't tell the complete story. These are the complete results.

Borodino '02, Fort Monroe, Virginia - September 5-7. See Jodiecon website [www.jodiecon.org] for additional information

Napoleonic - featuring the Battle of Borodino - One hundred gamers plus attended the event, and re-fought the battle of Borodino on terrain that covered a tabletop measuring 44 feet by 18 feet. Many thousands of 25 mm Old Glory figures graced the tables. The game fought over three days, and running up to 35 game turns resulted in a Pyrrhic French victory, which the judges assessed as a strategic Russian victory. Casualties incurred ran to 33,000 French dead, wounded and missing and 34,000 Russian dead, wounded and missing. The French inflicted a crushing hammer blow against the Russian left flank at Utitsa, but failed to sever the all important road to Moscow running through Borodino. At the Great Redoubt the Russians inflicted crippling losses against the assaulting Westphalian and Polish Corps. The battle concluded with the Russians doggedly holding the Great Redoubt, and new road to Moscow, allowing the defeated forces from the Flechettes and Utitsa sectors to retire on Moscow. The French exhausted by the exertions of the day pursued as best they could with the husbanded light cavalry of Nansouty's cavalry corps.

Waterloo '03, Nigel's Basement, Connecticut - March 2003.

Napoleonic - Waterloo, 1815 - Nigel as GM using 6 mm figures from his own collection. Early tactical mistakes by the French commanders gave the Allies a promise of victory before the arrival of the Prussians. However, the resilient French returned to the attack, stormed and captured Hougoumont, and drove the allied right wing back. The French threw the Guard corps against the allied left wing, but unwisely left scant troops in reserve around Plancenoit, into which gap the Prussians made their assault. The French, exhausted on their left and their center and right rear threatened by the Prussians had no recourse but to accept defeat. More Photos.
